DEA Controlled Substance Prescriptions: Legitimate or Fraudulent? (2022 Update - CE Available)
Completion of this course by itself does not meet all the ACPE requirements for CE credit. Learners who desire ACPE credit must also pass the CE Mastery Exam and complete the Course Evaluation.
The responsibility of properly handling controlled substance prescriptions, as well as ensuring the accuracy and legitimacy of what is filled, can be daunting for the pharmacist and pharmacy technician.
The goal of DEA Controlled Substance Prescriptions: Legitimate or Fraudulent? is to teach learners regulations governing who is entitled to issue and fill controlled substance prescriptions and under what conditions. Using this information, learners will also be able to identify whether a prescription is legitimate or fraudulent.
Learners who complete this course will be able to:
- Identify who is entitled to fill a controlled substance prescription
- Identify who is entitled to issue a controlled substance prescription and the purpose and manner of such issuance
- Describe the requirements of controlled substance prescriptions
- Tell the difference between a legitimate and a fraudulent controlled substance prescription using the information given in the course
About the Authors
The program was developed by Christopher Grush and Scott Kurtz, partners in the Drug Education and Compliance Group (DECG) specializing in pharmaceutical matters. Mr. Grush holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Mr. Kurtz holds a Bachelor of Science degree.

To receive 0.5 hours (0.05 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education in all states that recognize the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as an approved provider, you must obtain a score of at least 70% on this assessment. After passing the assessment you can view and print your statement of credit online.
